Apac Update

I received some great pictures from Apac today, which I am soo excited about! My inbox was flooded with pictures from Hellen. She recently went to Apac ( few hours away by drive from Kampala- where CU school is.) The purpose was to have a meeting with the community, pay off more of the land, get biographies, and ofcourse to take pictures of the kids!

I'm going to be starting up the "Adopt a Child" campaign next month. A school is a huge undertaking and at time it feels overwhelming. When one thing is accomplished another 5 things have been added to the "to-do" list. But then i'm easily reminded that this won't be just a school and how badly it's needed. 70% of the kids who are registered to attend are currently not in school or receiving any form of education. There are other primary schools in the district, but they are far away or private($$) I will post more info on the adopt a child program, once everything is set up. For now take a look at these beautiful kids! (Not sure how to enlarge the pictures onto blogspot?)

Blogs for a Cause& Fundraising News!

I would like to remind everyone that Nikki at Blogs for a Cause, http://www.madebynikki.blogspot.com/ has chosen The Apac School Project to donate to this month. If you want your blog redone or redesigned- now's the time to do it!

On other fundraising news, I am now in the process of planning our next one for February. It will be an all day affair, starting in the late morning and ending in the evening. During the day there will be a raffle, Ugandan jewelery&crafts, bake sale, coffee&tea, etc..At night it will be a bit more formal with a sit down dinner and i'll talk a bit about the project. If your in an around the Montreal area please stop by! I have a huge list of things I have to do-the first being to get the hall I want(Piereffonds Cultural Center) so i'm off to call them again. Hopefully, if this day is succesful we can start getting some classrooms built(it's about $3,500 for each class to be built and furnished!) If your intrested in trying to raise money to have one classroom built in your name there's a number of ways to do it...

1) Bottles&Can Collection- Collect bottles and cans which can be returned for cash. Let your friends and family know what your doing and chances are they will help you out.

2)Loonie n' Toonie Drive- Asks friends and family to donate a buck or two towards your goal.

3) Ugandan jewelery- Beautiful necklaces, bracelets, and earings all made by local woman and children from Uganda. You can set up a booth and sell them at school or at a local fair. They are handmade out of recycled paper!

For anyone who wants to set up a fundraiser with the goal of building a classroom or even just to raise a bit of money - everything is needed and appreciated. To help you with your fundraising efforts, I will send you information and pictures and anything else you might need to make your fundraiser a success. Everyone who raises money for a classroom to be built, will have their name(s) incribed into a plaque and put up in the class once it's built. You will also get a report(information/pictures)each step of the way as well as a video of the class once construction is complete!

An excuse to say "yes!"

I don't know what im looking more forward to, Christmas or once all of the children at Christian Upliftment Nursery&Primary school have found sponsors. I have been trying to find sponsors for two groups of kids, in total 25. So far 9 sponsors are on board, ready to change a life!! That leaves 16 kids in need of a sponsor!

The current sponsors could be called "ordinary people"-working men and woman, families, and even kids and teens! But they are deffinetly doing extraordinary things! On top of sponsoring students, we have been able to come together at times of need for the school. Some of the recent projects include build a clean water well for the school and surronding community, building proper toilets, and even setting up children's mothers with income generating project.

New toilets constructed. The old ones where filthy and unhygenic. These help the older girls stay in school when they're menstruating as they have the proper facilities to use.

Students help take part in bringing clean water to their school and community!

Children eating lunch thanks to their sponsors!

These children are worthy of it and most of all they deserve it. No money is taken back for administration purposes and your yearly donation of $35 goes towards buying the child a uniform, school meals, and to pay the dedicated teachers. Without the sponsorship program, the school would no longer be able to run.

Asio Annet. A beautiful 12 year old girl who has no one to support her. She comes from a very poor family. She dreams of becoming a doctor. The sad reality is that she has an extremely high chance of never even making it to high school. Without someone to support her, she will likely be pulled out of school to look for work.

Meet little Ogosa Emmanuel! He's 10 years old and loves playing hide and seek and running. He is an orphan at only 10 years old. He wants to study hard so he can become a teacher. He needs someones guidance to help him get to where he wants to be.

This here is Akwero Nancy. She is a complete orphan which means that both her parents have died. She loves playing games with her friends and would like to be a teacher. She is 11 years old and is in p.2.
There's always a reason to choose to make a diffrence in a child's life. Maybe these three kids will help you put a reason on them!
